My former husband moved there when he was 6 years old. His parents ran the guest ranch from 1945 until his Dad passed away in 1963. A Relaxing Hill Country Retreat
A great place to stay for families with school-aged children. We were truly impressed by the beauty and seclusion of the property as well as the warmth and friendliness of the ranch staff and their family. Our children played for hours in the beautiful spring-fed pool and enjoyed feeding the exotic animals. We told stories around the bonfire pit and generally enjoyed the warmth and comfort of the magnificent home. We can't stop telling our friends about the highlight of our Spring break Trip to Texas (better than SeaWorld or the Riverwalk). We look forward to finding another opportunity to return.

We had a wonderful time at the ranch! The house was beautiful. We were welcomed by the friendly "ranch hands" and a visit from the owner. The property is perfect for quiet time, long walks, and cooling off at the spring fed (a little chilly) pool. The animals are an extra treat! Many thanks for the hospitality and company.

Sight unseen, we rented this property for our annual family pilgrimage to the Hill Country, this year with our sons' college roommates from Seattle and Montreal. We were captivated by the beautiful landscape, the large and comfortable lodge, and most of all, the virtual Noah's Ark of free-range hoofstock (with hundreds of photos to prove it). Rugged hiking in the hills, swimming in the picturesque natural pool, and star-gazing around the bonfire pit, all were among the best experiences we've had in 30 years of visiting the Frio Canyon area. Our guests were thrilled with their first experience of Texas - and intend to return for more R&R at Circle H Lodge.
